Logan's Wedding: Part 1

We just got back (late last night) from Logan & Mindy's wedding, and a fabulous time with family! Now it is time to chronicle our adventure here, and the adventure started with our trip there. You probably feel like you've heard this before - Massachusetts to Michigan...didn't we just do that 6 weeks ago? Can it really be that different? It can when you decide to do it in one day...

Every time I've held them together like this they put their hands on the window and squished their faces against it...until we got out the camera!

After much consideration we decided to keep going until we were there. It was doable since the wedding was on the East side of Michigan (whereas we had to cross the state last time). It would push the babies past their normal bedtime limits, and be the longest amount of continuous time they've spent in their car seats. But we wouldn't have the hassle of unpacking and then repacking at the hotel, and we would get (a little) extra time with Logan & Mindy before the wedding (since we were staying at their house).

The trip went shockingly smooth with only a few surprises:

At our first stop (1/2 hour into the trip because we forgot to fill up the tank before we left) I saw a bunch of birds on the roof with an owl sitting on the highest point. I thought it was so cool to see the owl and quickly got out my camera to snap a picture. Imagine my surprise when I looked closer and saw that it was plastic!

The beautiful owl that is NOT real.

Hearing water drops on the windshield at our next stop. Why was this a surprise? Because it was a beautiful sunny day. What was it coming from? The bare bottomed man I was changing in the passenger seat. He used his little fire hose (with incredible aim and force) to get the windshield, the dashboard, the passenger door & window, and me! He managed, however, to keep himself completely dry. Based on his giggles, I would say he was proud of himself!

Allie and the steering wheel. If the girl was anywhere near the wheel she refused to do anything but play with it. Even eating! She even started holding herself in a standing position at the wheel and smiling at cars and trucks that passed by! Future race car, bus, or truck driver? Maybe...

At our last stop we were feeding the babies in the van (because it was so cold & we didn't want to take them out), and the windshield fogged up. Suddenly we noticed that a bunch of numbers and letters had appeared. While we know that a sticker with manufacturing codes was probably stuck there at one point, we had just been listening to a Robert Ludlum book on cd, and for a moment wondered if there was any way that our van was being used to smuggle international intelligence codes into Michigan...

The mysteriously appearing numbers.

When we arrived, Ryan had had enough. He refused to eat (it was an extra bottle, intended to help soothe before bed - so he wasn't starving), and cried through bedtime. I tried rocking him, but he wouldn't calm down, so I laid him down crying to see what happened. He fell asleep not much later, but Jack (Logan & Mindy's dog) stayed outside their room the entire time and cried with Ryan!

Notice Allie...and the steering wheel!

I am thankful for:

A safe, uneventful trip

Vendors who were willing to provide hot water (to warm bottles) and ice (to keep waiting bottles cold) for free along the way.

That the ABC's (in addition to Head & Shoulders, Knees & Toes) are now a never-fail, stop-the-crying song. It was nice to be able to do a medley instead of singing the same song over, and over, and over...

A sense of humor, and a husband who has a great one as well. We would have never survived the trip without one!
