Nautical Festival

We capped of our Work-cation with a quick weekend visit with Nana (poor Poppy was back on the boat) - which just happened to coincide with the Nautical Festival! We managed to catch a few of the fun festivities - the first being the parade (the first parade the twins have ever seen)!!
Eating some lunch while waiting for the parade to start.
While the twins waved to almost all of the floats/bands/trucks, Ryan got seriously twitterpated whenever a float with pretty girls (like pageant queens) went by!
(bonus points if you know the twitterpated reference!)
Allie was scared by the loud horns of the semis (of which there were quite a few), and quickly ended up in daddy's arms for comfort.
Mr. D in his fire truck!!
A few of our favorites - the clown giving out free shakes (he would shake his bum!), the frog car (which the twins loved), the destroyer (it talked, blew smoke, and shot a (fake) gun...), the back of the destroyer (can you see how many sets of feet are inside? 3!!), a few outhouses (from the outhouse race they have in the winter - I thought this was too funny!), and the VBS float with the most laid back Jesus I have ever seen (I saw him give someone a thumbs up!).
Ryan, once again, faking shy while waving to beauty queens!
Allie is a little less entranced by the beauty queens...
Several floats passed out icee pops...so I let the twins try one. Ryan loved his...
A big truck honked his horn just after I gave Allie hers, and she got scared and was pretty much done...
Ryan liked playing with the beads that one of the floats threw.
Allie - completely done with the heat and loud noises - snuggled with Nana. She's not usually a snugly kiddo, so Nana was thrilled!
Later in the afternoon, we went to the carnival! There were not a lot (as in any) rides that the twins could ride...but we thought we would try the carousel...
Although you can't tell from the pictures (it is really hard to get a decent picture of 2 kids on a moving carousel!), it was a hit. So much so that Ryan screamed when it stopped, and tried to open the exit gate to go back!
Since there wasn't much for them at the carnival, we walked to the playground instead...although the twins made a beeline for the beach and Lake Huron!
Allie ran in and out of the waves about 30 times! She loved it...as long as the water never went higher than her knees :)
Ryan started by wading with Nana - pretty soon he was sitting & playing in the water!
That evening Lucas and I had a wonderful date night. We went back to the carnival and rode the Ferris wheel and "Demon Loop" (the one where you swing back and forth until you go all the way around). Then we ate elephant ears and watched the fireworks (which would have been romantic if we wouldn't have accidentally chose a spot that ended up being where all of the previously partying high schoolers sat...). All in all, our work-cation was a fabulous success!

'twitterpated' - Isn't that from Bambi? I'm thinking maybe Flower or Thumper says it ...

It IS from Bambi! I can't remember if it's Flower or Thumper either, but I'm pretty sure its one of them :) That word so perfectly describes Ryan around girls! Bonus points for Lauren (although it's a little like "Whose Line" in that the points don't mean a thing...just bragging rights)

Way to go Lauren!!
