Allergy Updates

So, I decided that it was time to try dairy again with Ryan (in hopes that I would have definitive evidence whether or not he did have an allergy). We gave them yogurt for breakfast, and within a few minutes Lucas noticed that Allie had a small rash on her cheek.

We were not convinced that it was related to the yogurt, so he kept feeding her. A little later the rash had spread to most of her cheek. So we stopped the yogurt and gave her Benadryl. Thankfully the rash was gone after about an hour...

Bummer.

On the BRIGHT side...one of Lucas' friends from college started Easy as Pie Recipes - a website where you put in your food allergies and find recipes that work! She is currently in the test kitchen preparing recipes, but you can find those at her blog. Plus, you can e-mail her, so I already have some great recipes ideas from her - including pancakes that don't use eggs or milk! I'm so excited!!!

I was so hoping for a new up-dated blog so I didn't have to see Ry-guy with hives anymore, and there is Allie with hives. Poor babies. You are a good mom to make special recipes for them! I was so hoping my grandbabies weren't with allergies but they come from a long line of family members with allergies. Especially CATS ! Hugs to all and I hope the V- package got there. I can't imagine what took it so long. We mailed it out way before Valentines Day. At least that's what Poppy told me. Hugs from Nana

I wonder what pancakes without eggs OR milk taste like?? Let us know on the blog what the ingredients are. Sounds interesting. There are a LOT of things your kids have eatten that they are NOT allergic to, so there is hope. I know you will get it figured out and prayerfully they will outgrow those things that bother them now. Hang in there!! Love and prayers, G-gran

Well, it turns out you can substitute 1/4 cup of bananas, applesauce, or pumpkin for eggs (which I've had before and is really yummy). And, instead of using regular milk you can use soy or almond milk. I actually cook often with soy milk (because I'm slightly lactose intolerant), and it tastes pretty much the same. So...that's pancakes without eggs or milk :) We haven't tried them this way yet, but I have had applesauce pancakes that were yummy, so I feel confident that they will be good!
